UPDATED: Woman Killed in Over the Side Crash Identified

A 46-year-old Topanga woman was found dead at the scene off Malibu Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Topanga woman was killed when her car plunged over the side of Malibu Canyon Road Thursday.

The crash was reported at 9:49 a.m. Thursday, just north of Malibu's city limit,  according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 46-year-old woman, Jennifer King, died at the scene, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. Authorities withheld her name pending notification of her relatives.

The woman was driving a Mazda Miata north on Malibu Canyon Road when she lost control of the car, which tumbled off the side of the roadway, ejecting her, Villalobos said. She apparently was alone in the car, he said.

Search and Rescue was working on clearing the area to make sure there were no other occupants.

Malibu Canyon Road was closed between Civic Center Way and Piuma Road for several hours, the CHP reported. The road reopened just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The car was about 300 feet over the side, according to reports from the scene.
