Driver Chased from Malibu to Los Angeles

The suspect's car crashed in the Mid-City section of Los Angeles after traveling through Malibu and Santa Monica.

A car that was spotted driving recklessly in downtown Malibu was chased 30 miles into Santa Monica and eventually the Mid-City section of Los Angeles, where the suspect reportedly crashed.

Los Angeles firefighters radioed in that they were taking an injured person in police restraints to a hospital. Los Angeles police were not available for immediate details.

Several motorists reported to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station at about 9:25 a.m. that a motorist was driving recklessly in Malibu's Civic Center Area, said sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Arnold.

Arnold said sheriff's deputies pursued the vehicle down Pacific Coast Highway "to the heart of Santa Monica," where the chase was picked up by officers from the Santa Monica Police Department, and then the LAPD West Los Angeles Station.

An LAPD airship was overhead as the chase wound through West L.A., the South Robertson area and the Wilshire District. The pursuit ended near Pico and Redondo boulevards, according to reports at the scene.

Paramedics were dispatched at 10:51 a.m. to the 1300 block of Redondo Boulevard, and took one person to a hospital, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

The suspect's medical condition was not immediately known, Scott said.

A bit off topic, but what does anyone think of DUI checkpoints this summer on PCH. One just west of Kanan Dume (eastbound lane) and east of Geoffrey's same lane. Maybe from 4-6 PM Fri-Sun. Wonder how many fish they'd catch.
