Malibu Adoptions Can Save These Lives

Two dogs are looking for new and better lives in Malibu. One needs donations to pay for medical care.

This week, we have two young and adorable dogs looking for homes in Malibu. Why don't you make their day, and your day too, by adopting one or both of them? You can also help a young puppy by making a donation to fund the life-saving surgery he needs.

Pecas: This 16-pound 2-year-old is trying to establish his reputation as a sweetheart—having come into the shelter fearful and a bit obtuse. Pecas is learning to trust and enjoy the company of those who admire him for his joyful spirit. It took shelter volunteers to teach him what his owners should have.

Pecas is a high-energy fellow who loves getting out from behind the bars of the cage he shares with several other dogs. He prances, struts, races and dashes. His goal is to find a human friend who will appreciate him, give him guidance and share his love. Adoption No. A1279656.

Caleb: This 5-month-old puppy is so adorable, he even looks good in his impound photo. At 22 pounds, he is undoubtedly one of the most adorable dogs in the shelter.

A force far more powerful than Caleb's desire to romp and run (probably a car) left him with a fracture to his pelvis and right-hind leg. He needs surgery to become the puppy he is meant to be. Unless some wonderful, generous angel comes along to help him, Caleb won't ever know the happiness of running in the grass or chasing a ball. He will be euthanized.

For now, Caleb cuddles up with the few visitors allowed into his kennel. But that's not enough for a delicious and delightful tail-wagging pooch. He wants more and he deserves it. If you can help Caleb, please contact the South L.A. shelter or Andrea (information listed below). Adoption No. A1281207.

Donations are usually available to help with surgery for an adoptive family.

For more information, please contact volunteer Andrea Braver by email at ivegonetothedogs@gmail.com or by telephone at 323-363-4909. She is happy to meet you at the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter, located at 3612 11th Ave. in Los Angeles (888-452-7381, www.LAAnimalServices.com).

The injured dogs in shelters have always been my personal heart-tug. It's hard enough for any dog or cat to find a new home. God forbid they are injured. I've adopted 2 dogs, one from Agoura and one from SO LA, with a broken leg and have found foster homes for 2 more. I can say from experience - it is such a wonderful adventure. All 4 surgeries were completed seamlessly, they healed quickly and back to 100% health in no time. I've had and seen incredible surgery results from the orthopedic surgeon Dr. Olds in Brentword - the magic-man!. For all of these dogs, I was able raise donations that covered surgery and there is also a rescue group that many times steps in and will pay 1/2 of the cost to help a family save this life! I'd be happy to write a blog on the Patch asking our community for help!

I hope that people will open up their hearts to those who need a chance. It's just a broken bone . . . they heal! And the bond you make with that baby is for their lifetime! It's a special one - beyond exception!
