Malibu Company Uses Tiny Helicopters to Help Sell Homes

The helicopters' cameras capture the Malibu area homes on video in high-definition.

In the Los Angeles area, you see helicopters flying about for various reason: rescues, crime and to follow the dreaded traffic. And now they can be used to sell homes. With the use of small helicopters equipped with cameras, the Malibu Company HeliMalibu is creating high-definition videos of luxury homes on the market.

The technology is pieced together by HeliMalibu's tech-savvy team, which includes people who have worked in the television and film industries.

"Everybody's trying to sell a house," said David Bone of HeliMalibu. "Not everybody's trying to make a film."

The Hexa Cam is a six-bladed helicopter that creates a buzz, but is much easier on the ears than a full-fledged helicopter. Plus, the cameras can even fly inside a house and across a pool without the neighbors noticing.

The cameras are remote-controlled and have parts from Germany, Australia and New Zealand, among other nations.

"Once we have that commercial-quality video, then we are able to take it and start to run with it," said Bill Kerbox, head of , which uses the service. "We can put it in the MLS, we can put it in the Patches, Realtor.com … we can run with it."
