Pepperdine Professor Finishes in World Top 10 at CrossFit Games

The CrossFit Games tests an athlete's true fitness with a series of challenges ranging from running and squats to climbing and odd object lifts.

Laurie Nelson, a 66-year-old professor, finished in the top 10 at the 2012 CrossFit Games Master Women 60-plus.

The CrossFit Games tests an athlete's true fitness with a series of challenges ranging from running and squats to climbing and odd object lifts.

"As a 66-year-old competing against 60-year-olds and a person hampered in my training with a sinus infection that lasted for a month, I was very pleased with my finish," Nelson said.

The workouts included things like rope climbs and chest to bar pull ups, that Nelson says she had never attempted before last weekend. Nelson set several personal bests in the workouts such as the shoulder to overheard barbell lift, where she tied for second in the competition.

"It was a wonderful experience. I have never done anything like this in my life before and never would have dreamed that I could," Nelson said.
