Ramirez Park for Sale?

The controversial Malibu property donated to the state by Barbra Streisand nearly two decades ago is on a list of state properties Gov. Brown says should be sold.

Gov. Jerry Brown’s revised proposal for the 2011-12 state budget includes the sale of the  22.5-acre . SMMC Executive Director Joe Edmiston’s office is on the property, which was donated to the state in 1993 by Barbra Streisand and has been a site of contention for years among the SMMC, the city and local property owners.

A press release from Brown’s office issued Monday morning about his budget proposal, known as the May Revise, lists Ramirez among "underutilized state properties" that should be sold.

"These properties serve no state function and should be sold off to pay debt," the release states.

Edmiston could not immediately be reached for comment.

Ramirez has been the subject of numerous legal battles. Pending lawsuits challenge the California Coastal Commission’s 2010 approval of a plan to build overnight camping sites and to allow 16 major events per year on the property.
