Sara Wan Off Coastal Commission, Sources Say

Sources say Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg announced Tuesday that he will not renew the California Coastal Commission term of . She has been on the commission since 1996, and was controversially named chair in December.

Steinberg is expected to appoint Dayna Bochco, who is the wife of famed television producer Steven Bochco. She is a television producer and president of Steven Bochco Productions as well as an activist with the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Wan's appointment as chair when former Senate President pro Tem John Burton sent her a profanity-laced letter on State Democratic Party letterhead (he is the current chair) accusing Wan of having "screwed Mary Shallenberger (a former longtime aide of Burton) out of the chair of the commission in order to gain it yourself."

Wan told Malibu Patch that she was "shocked" to receive the letter and that "I didn’t seek to be the chair and I never asked anyone to vote for me."

Wan and Steinberg could not immediately be reached for comment for this article.
