No surprise with the weather report: According to the National Weather Service, we should expect patchy fog in the morning with gradual clearing to a mostly sunny day. Today's high will be around 71 degrees.

Friends of the Malibu Library will present "Nature of Wildworks," featuring local wild animals close up at the Malibu Library at 3:30 p.m. today.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is seeking a candidate for its Financial Oversight Committee. The FOC advises the Board of Education on potentially significant financial matters. Details of the position can be found on the city of Malibu Website and applications are available on the district's website. 

The seventh annual Malibu Invitational, a short board pro and legends surf competition, takes place this weekend at First Point. The event benefits the Young and Brave Foundation, which was founded by surfer Nathaniel Curran and ESPN sports talk show host Matt Coulter and helps young adults, children, and families with little ones diagnosed with all forms of cancer. To see the confirmed lineup of pro surfers, check the Malibu Invitational website.

Plan ahead: The next regular planning commission meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at City Hall, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road.
