Five Things: Dogs Fighting Cancer, Lights of Hope

Here are five things residents of Malibu need to know today.

1. The American Cancer Society is hosting two events in Malibu next month. Bark For Life takes place at 10 a.m. on Aug. 4 at Legacy Park. The event “celebrates the care giving capacity of canine companions in the fight for cancer.” Owners and their dogs dressed in their best costumes can participate in a walk, contests and games.

2. Lights of Hope, an inaugural cancer awareness event takes place Aug. 10 on Malibu Pier at 8 p.m. Decorated luminaria bags representing individuals who are currently battling cancer or who have lost their battle will line the pier.

3. Check Malibu Patch's live traffic map before heading out every morning on Pacific Coast Highway.

4. To get alerts on breaking news as it happens in Malibu this week (and after), make sure you are signed up to get Malibu Patch's emails. Click on the 'get the daily newsletter' at the top, right corner of the breaking news page. (If you see something that says, "hi, username," then you're already registered. In that case, click on "email settings" under the drop-down tab under your name.)

5. Malibu Patch is accepting for submissions for a new photo for its home page banner. The current photo was taken by Malibu's Terrell C. Woods at Leo Carrillo State Beach. Send submissions to editor Jessica Davis at jessica.davis@patch.com.
