High Wind Warning Issued For Malibu

A red flag warning goes into effect Thursday night.

Wind gusts up to 70 mph are expected in the Santa Monica Mountains around Malibu starting Thursday night.

A high wind warning goes into effect 11 p.m. Thursday through 3 p.m. Saturday, with the strongest winds expected Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Northeast winds will reach 30 to 45 mph with damaging gusts up to 70 mph, according to forecasters. Some gusts could reach up to 80 mph across some peaks in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. 

Residents should be alert for the possibility of downed trees and power lines, as well as power outages.  

The Santa Ana winds will also bring extreme fire danger to the area. A red flag warning is set to go into effect at 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday night.
