Letter: Return Our Plaque to Trancas Dog Park

Sam Hall Kaplan puts out a call for a plaque to be returned to the Trancas Dog Park.

Dear Editor:

When a sense of community takes root in misanthropic Malibu it is to be nurtured. So it is with the Trancas Dog Park, where a disparate group of diverse residents most days gather at an appointed time to greet one another and gossip, principally about their pampered pets but also about Malibu and their lives in general.

Much is shared, including a Facebook page featuring the pets at play in the park. The dogs have bonded, as have their owners, and when one of the engaging dogs, named Bodie, sadly passed away, all mourned. Out of respect and in grief, a modest plaque was placed on a bench in an appropriate ceremony last week. We do love our pets.

And now its gone. Someone took it down, whatever the reason. We are hoping it will be returned or replaced. Meanwhile, we mourn for the memory of Bodie, and for Malibu as a community that cares.

Respecfully submitted on behalf of Bobby and Coco, and the rest of the canine crowd and their owners.
