Los Angeles Celebrates Beer

The annual L.A. Beer Week takes place through Sept. 29. One of the events takes place Friday at the Federal Bar in NoHo. Share your favorites beers and breweries in the comment section!

This week beer enthusiasts and crafters alike will celebrate Los Angeles' beer culture with events throughout Los Angeles and neighboring cities.

Now in it's fifth year, Beer Week is organized by a group of volunteer beer lovers with the purpose of assisting in the evolution and expansion of the craft locally. According to its website, the celebration serves as a promotional tool for the establishments serving and brewing craft and artisan beer.

Events are scheduled from Wednesday through Sep. 29 and take place in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, on Los Angeles' Westside and as far south as San Pedro, Long Beach and Seal Beach. Find a complete list of events on the Beer Week website.

One of this year's fun features is a Beer is Art exhibit taking place Friday at La Luz de Jesus Gallery. Operating on the premise that many beer drinkers have doodled on a coaster while sitting at a bar, Beer Week organizers approached artists and asked them to do whatever they wanted to transform a four-inch coaster into a work of art. The results will be on display at the gallery at 4633 Hollywood Blvd. through Sept. 29.

In North Hollywood, the Federal Bar is hosting Haven Brewing brewmaster Brian Thorson from 4-8 p.m. Some of the beers in his lineup include Hop Wave and Oktoberfest.

Ok, beer aficionados, who do you think makes the best beer in or around Los Angeles? What are some of your favorites? As well, let us know your favorite spot to drink craft beers in the area.
