Malibu Adoptions Can Save These Lives

Dusti and Ellie are both looking for homes.

Ellie

How would you describe Ellie? A little fox with those pointed ears, pointed nose and bushy tail? A sprite who enchants everyone she meets? A funny girl who makes passers-by smile with delight?  She's all that -- well, not really a fox.

Ellie is a year old miss who came into the shelter with her longer-haired sister. The girls were very shy, unfamiliar with the leash, and hesitant to show their real feelings. It didn't take long, though, for them to agree that two-legged creatures can be a lot of fun.

Ellie is a slight girl, the perfect size at about 18 pounds, and loves being out in the public eye. She's been kenneled with other dogs and enjoyed their company as well. We had Ellie at our weekend adoption event and, although one couple adored her, they decided they would have to wait for a dog of their own. So, Ellie was transferred to the Best Friends facility in Mission Hills.

Her ID number with L.A. City was A1366708. If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Ellie, please let me know and I can find out what her new Best Friends ID number is. She's a gem.

Dusti

Dusti is a doxie mix. Who isn't dusty at all. Rather, she's perfectly groomed and as spotless as a dog can be. Dusti's coat resembles that of a shepherd in its texture.  She's a beautiful golden color with fur that catches the sunlight, glowing.  And what lovely eyes she has.  Dusti came in to the shelter after having a home where they obviously cared for her. She's well-socialized, tends to be on the quiet side but very sweetly so rather than shy. We had her at a mobile adoption event in Studio City where she met many people, some with their own dogs.

Her behavior was admirable all day long and the handlers who spent the afternoon with her couldn't stop raving. The day was a chilly one and between a Lakers game and the Grammy's, not many people came to the park.

Dusti wound up without a new family. However, she was taken by Best Friends to their facility in Mission Hills. If you are considering meeting Dusti, formerly known as A1122488 in the L.A. City shelter system, please let me know and I can retrieve her new ID number for you.

For more info please contact volunteer Andrea at email IveGoneToTheDogs@gmail.com or phone at (323) 363-4909. She's happy to meet you at the shelter, which is located at 3612 11th Ave. in L.A., which can be reached at (888) 452-7381 or online at www.LAAnimalServices.com.

Dear Phil (re: Burt's column), I can’t quite put my finger on it, but, I sense anRead More Eggs-itential undertone to all this. Does the chicken Egg-ist on behalf of the egg or vice versa? Eggs-perience will reveal the truth. To be complete, I must rehash Camus’ “The Play-egg.” Yet, as I recall, in the Book of Eggs-odous, there wasn’t a single Play-egg, but ten of them… so many, in fact, that it seems to many readers to be literally a Dozen Play-eggs. But, then again, I’m not very religious. In fact, many of my colleagues take me for an Egg-nostic. But, they are such Hard-boiled fanatics, that, in fact, their peers surmise they boarder on Egg-lectic. But, as Burt always says in da ‘hood, “Om-letting them be what they want to be.” We, however, have one on Burt: Rumor has it that he fell of the Vegan and had an egg salad… to which he Eggs-claims, “It was a serving of ‘Egg Beaters,’ you Egg-Heads!!”

May Malibu residents, businesses and our City ALWAYS have the foresight and passion to remember andRead More protect > "Malibu was a place I went to with friends to hang out at the beach. But the last few years, its become a place I often go to by myself as a little escape zone. Whenever I have need to clear by head and level my shoulders, I head out to Malibu for a little mini-vacation. Whenever, like Ishmael, it feels like a damp, drizzly November in my soul, I fire up my 1965 Chevelle Malibu Super Sport and go see the watery part of the world." Amen.
