Malibu High Teen to Olympian Gracie Gold: Will You Go to Prom with Me?

There's no denying the earnestness of the proposal. Now will she say yes? Stay tuned!

Prompted by the Sherman Oaks teen who asked super model Kate Upton to the prom last year, a Malibu High senior has his eye on American Olympian figure skater Gracie Gold.

Dyer Pettijohn uploaded his YouTube plea last night (see above), and already has more than 1,400 hits as of publication time.

“Watching you skate makes me realize how perfect we are for each other,” Pettijohn says from a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Here’s why:

Gold is gorgeous. Pettijohn’s mom thinks he’s pretty.

Gold is an Olympic athlete. Pettijohn made varsity.

Gold lives at the beach. Pettijohn lives at the beach.

Sounds compelling to us.

Unlike the three-year difference between Upton and suitor Jake Davidson, Pettijohn’s friend Michael Jacobson thinks his buddy might have a real shot, as Gold is the same age as Pettijohn, 18, and didn’t get to have the regular high school experience.

“She’s 18. She lives in Southern California. I hope it all comes together,” Jacobson said.

No word yet from Gold, who took fourth in figuring skating at the Sochi Winter Olympics and who trains in El Segundo.

This is innocent and adorable. I love it! I would let my daughter go with him (after meeting his parents and learning a little more about him). I would also verify details with the school. Maybe I would even volunteer to be a prom chaperone, but I would definitely let my daughter decide. It would be HER date and her decision from the get go.
