Artist Seeks to Keep Painting of Iconic 'Malibu Pier' in Malibu

"Adrift in Time" will be up for sale in Santa Barbara.

The artist of a 6-foot painting of the Malibu Pier is hoping to keep the art work in Malibu.

Artist Pete Buchan created “Adrift in Time” by using chopsticks to drip and
layer paint on a surfboard.

The painting, which was for sale at the Malibu Arts Festival last weekend, is slated to make its way to Santa Barbara on Saturday.

“We will be taking the 20” x 72” art piece on the road to Santa Barbara this week for potential sale, but really believe it belongs in Malibu since the artist was inspired by this scenic beach,” said Marsinah Ramirez, arts promoter for BUCHANART.

Because the canvas is a large surfboard, the art has a sculpture-like quality, making it an ideal focal point for a Malibu surfside restaurant, beach home or oceanside business, Ramirez said.
