Malibu Art Association Monthly Meeting

The Malibu Art Association (MAA) has been contributing to the community since 1963.

Traditionally, the Association has a demonstration meeting every fourth Thursday (unless there's a holiday - then the third Thursday). These meetings are open to the public and are an inspiring 2 hours of a professional artist sharing techiques, etc. These meetings are usually held at the Michael Landon Center at Bluffs Park from 7-9PM.

In addition, the Art In Public Places Program has enabled many businesses to enjoy art on a rotating basis. The clients who frequent these businesses always remark how the art makes the area more comfortable and pleasing.

The first Friday of each month (weather permitting), a group of artists meet at the Country Mart (near John's Garden) for "Montmartre in Malibu" - an informal plein aire show where members demonstrate their techniques and display works for sale. The time is usually around 11:30 AM (noonish) to 3 PM.

The Malibu Art Association also has several shows a year. The highlight is usually a show at Bergamot Station during early spring. This year it will be at the Schomburg Gallery - reception on March 24 from 3 - 6 PM. The gallery is located in Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave. E3A, Santa Monica 90404.

All MAA members contribute 20% of their art sales from MAA sponsored events, this donation goes into the Scholarship Fund. The Association awards scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to continue their education in the fields of art. MAA also donates art books and videotapes to the Malibu Public Library and provides art supplies requested by teachers at Malibu High School.
