Malibu Film Society screening of "To Kill a Mockingbird"

For our screening on Sunday, May 1, Malibu Film Society is
joining forces with “One Book, One City – Malibu” (1B1C) to show the film version of the Harper Lee classic selected for this year’s community read:  “To Kill A Mockingbird.”  Presenting the film will be Pulitzer Prize winning author, Dr. Edward J. Larson.

For those not familiar, 1B1C was established nine years ago
to promote literacy and to support our local public library by getting the entire community to read one great book – and then share it with others.  The annual city-wide program includes a number of special events, including a writing contest sponsored by Diesel Books and a special kickoff event at Malibu High School on Saturday, April 30th.  Our screening will then take place the following night.

Featuring an Academy Award-winning performance by Gregory
Peck and an Oscar-winning Best Screenplay by Horton Foote, this 1962 film helped raised public consciousness about racial injustice and was instrumental in the eventual passage of the Civil Rights Act two years later.

The screening is scheduled from 7:15-9:15pm at the Malibu Screening Room located at 24855 PCH (in the Malibu Jewish Center complex just up the coast from Pepperdine).  Admission will be FREE for everyone 14 and under as well as for members of MFS; non-member admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for faculty.

For this one screening, Malibu Film Society will not be taking advance purchase reservations for this one event.  Instead, please email scott@commcinema.com and note the number of seats you’d like so that we can plan accordingly.
