Malibu High Alums Show Off Short Film at Cannes

Jerry Wolf, member of Malibu High's Class of 2004, plays a vengeful army scout in 'Four Winds'. The movie is also directed by Nick Brokaw, one of Wolf's classmates.

Two Malibu High School grads and many of their friends have teamed up to create a short film that was recently shown to acclaim at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

The film is Four Winds, a story about a Native American scout out for vengeance after the betrayal of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people in the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864, according to the film's creators.

The 32-minute short was directed by Nick Brokaw, part of the Malibu High School Class of 2004. Jerry Wolf, another member of the Class of 2004, plays the scout, whose name is Four Winds. Wolf wrote to Patch that the short film is the jumping off point for a larger feature version that's still a work in progress, and both he and Brokaw co-wrote and co-produced it.

Four Winds is the first release from Napesni Motion Pictures, which Brokaw and Wolf formed together after staying connected through college. The film itself, partially funded by Malibu businesses and families, features plenty of other Malibu ties.

Co-star A Martinez, who used to be Wolf's baseball coach and has performed in Malibu, guided Wolf through his maiden voyage as a feature film lead, while Paramount Ranch was also one of the shooting locations in the film. Wolf also told Patch that Malibu volunteers were part of the process as extras and aid for the production team. And, for extra punch, Carson Higgins, another high school classmate of Wolf's and now part of the "American Idiot" musical tour, makes a cameo in the film.
