Injury Prompts Tribute Band to Bow out of Malibu Music Festival

An evening of tribute performances has some slight changes because of a serious injury to the singer of the Red Not Chili Peppers.

The group was originally scheduled to play Tuesday during a tribute evening at the Malibu Inn, according to Heather Weiss, a spokeswoman for the event.

Band member Remy Michael Fischer was injured by a palm branch, which pierced his forearm. Fischer was hospitalized, but photos on the band's Facebook page showed him smiling with his arm bandaged.

The group Fan Halen has stepped in and will perform in their place at 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to Weiss.

The concert is part of a week of performances leading up to the Malibu Music Awards.

Here is the full schedule (which may be subject to change) for the week at various locations around Malibu:

SUNSET RESTAURANT

• Learn how to line dance from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Sunset Restaurant as part of "Texas Two Step Tuesday."
• Listen to "As the Crow Flies Blues Band" at the Sunset Restaurant as part of "Blues at the Beach" on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
• Come see a line up of singer-songwriters at "Malibu Unplugged" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Sunset Restaurant.
• A DJ will blast tunes on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Sunset Restaurant.

SPRUZZO'S

• Listen to 10 performers at "Singer-Songwriter Night" at Spruzzo's at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18.
• "Jackie Berger and Jose' Night" is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Spruzzo's.
• Come out and see MPG & Celeste at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Spruzzo's.

KRISTY’S

• Eight performers will be featured from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Kristy's.
• "Jackie Berger and Jose' Night" is set from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Kristy's.

MALIBU INN

• The tribute band Fan Halen will perform at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Malibu Inn.
• Samantha Ronson and her band "The Undertakers" and "Fire in the Hamptons" is set for Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Malibu Inn.
• 27 Miles, Karma Dealers and the Harsh Carpets will be among the bands featured as part of "Malibu Locals Only" night on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Malibu Inn.
• Warren G and others will perform Friday, Sept. 21 at the Malibu Inn.
• The Malibu Music Awards are set for Saturday, Sept. 22 honoring Glen Campbell at the Malibu Inn.

PARADISE COVE

• "The Jazzmasters" will perform Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Paradise Cove.

SAVORY RESTAURANT

• "Hamid Cooper" featuring "Afro Cuban Latin Jazz" is set to perform at Savory Restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
