Los Angeles singer, songwriter Meiko will perform her sophomore album The Bright Side at the Malibu Inn later this week.
The event is set for 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 and will also feature performances by LAGrange Concourse and Larkin McLean.
Meiko's new album, which was released in May, blends folk-pop with electronic beats and features songs about risk, regret, tenderness and love.
Meiko, whose name derives from her one-fourth Japanese heritage, first performed in Malibu in 2009 for the Surfrider Foundation at the Malibu Pier. She answered a few questions about her upcoming Malibu concert:
Malibu Patch: What can concert goers expect from your performance?
Meiko: Well, I'm a singer-songwriter and sometimes a story- teller (depending on my wine intake). Should be a pretty upbeat show, since I'll have my band with me.
Malibu Patch: I see that you are from the South, but you are currently living in Los Angeles. How has living in the Southland impacted your music?
Meiko: I love living in Southern California. I'm more relaxed here, and that helps me to write more. Also, I love to people-watch which is always interesting. It's definitely a good environment to be in for inspiration.
