Tema Merback's novel about her mother's life during the Holocaust is a finalist for a National Jewish Book Award.

The Jewish Book Council has named Malibu resident Tema Merback's In the Face of Evil: Based on the Life of Dina Frydman Balbien as a finalist for the 2012 National Jewish Book Awards. , which tells the story of how her mother survived the Holocaust, is entered in the category "Children's and Young Adult Literature."

Merback, , told Malibu Patch last year in an interview about her book that the stories of her mother and other Holocaust survivors should continue to be told.

"They're all worth publishing or writing down," Merback said. "It's very important that these stories are recorded because these people are dying. Ten years from now, they're almost all going to be gone, and they won't be able to tell their stories anymore."
