Malibu Playhouse Names Terence Davis Chairman
Terence Davis is the founder of the Malibu Music Awards and Malibu Music Festival.
Terence Davis has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Malibu Playhouse.
“As a longtime member of this organization, I’m committed to supporting our new Artistic Director, Gene Franklin Smith, in his quest to bring professional theatre productions to Malibu,” Davis said. “I look forward to building on our past successes and working with the Board to support the Malibu Playhouse in its future endeavors.”
Davis succeeds Geoff Ortiz, who served as Chairman for 13 years and recently resigned from the board.
Malibu Playhouse artistic director Gene Franklin Smith said he already is working with Davis on ways to raise funds.
"He makes everyone feel welcome, and will be great at embracing loyal long time supporters, as well as new patrons, in support of building what we are confident will become a vibrant professional theatre community here in Malibu,” Smith said.
Davis, who is a composer and trained musician, founded Great Music, Inc. in 1998. His film credits include National Lampoon’s Thanksgiving Reunion starring Bryan Cranston, The Gambler, The Girl and The Gunslinger for Hallmark Channel, starring Dean Cain, and The Gift.
“Terence brings a new energy to the position and he’s got a great fun-loving spirit,” said Board Member Victoria Sterling. “... He’s demonstrated a support of the arts here as a member of the Malibu Arts Task Force, and has already set his sights on larger goals, such as a major campaign to create a Performing Arts Center in Malibu.”
Davis and his wife, Elyse, live in Malibu and have two children, Skyler and Kaitlin. He originally joined the board in 2002 and is its longest current serving member.
The Malibu Playhouse is located at 29243 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265. For more information visit the website: www.malibuplayhouse.org.
