Malibu Playhouse Presents 'Love Letters' in Santa Monica

The performance at the Broad Theatre in Santa Monica will benefit the Malibu Playhouse.

Husband and wife, Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross, will perform a reading of "Love Letters" by A. R, Gurney to benefit the Malibu Playhouse.

The performance, which will be directed by Malibu Playhouse Board Member Diane Namm, an award-winning director of film and stage, is set for 7:30 p.m. June 29 at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, the Edye Second Space at the Broad Theatre in Santa Monica.

“This is exciting for us. Doing something for the first time, in a play about two people with a long history," the couple said in a statement. "It couldn’t be more perfect. We have worked together in movies, television and on writing, but never before on stage.”

Katharine Ross Elliott is an acclaimed, award-winning American film and stage actress who is known for her performances in two of the most popular films of the late 1960s. She played the role of “Elaine Robinson” in The Graduate, the highest-grossing film of 1967, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for an Academy Award.  She also played “Etta Place” in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the highest-grossing film of 1969 for which she won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress.

Sam Elliott began his acting career on the stage. His film debut was in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969. More recently, Sam has appeared in We Were Soldiers (2002), Thank You for Smoking (2006), The Golden Compass (2007), Did You Hear About the Morgans?, Up in the Air (2009), Marmaduke (2010), The Big Bang (2011) and The Company You Keep (2012), directed by Robert Redford.
