Options Galore Available at Malibu Arts Festival
More than 150 artists and plenty of other features are part of the 40th annual event taking place this weekend in Malibu.
The Malibu Chamber of Commerce will host the 40th annual this weekend in the parking lot. The theme of this year's event is "the value of imagination is priceless."
More than 150 artists, who all passed a screening process, will exhibit their creations in individual white tents. Recent attendance at the two-day festival has averaged 8,000 to 10,000 visitors.
The artists come from various places in California and elsewhere, but the event will have a local flavor as well. The Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains & Seashore, Malibu Gallery and the Malibu Art Association will represent various local artists. Also, Malibu photographer Nick Rodionoff and local painter and photographer Seda Baghdasarian will have their own booths.

The entrance to this year's festival will feature six "surf cars," said Chamber of Commerce CEO Rebekah Evans. And unlike in previous years, there will not be a featured artist. Evans said she hopes that attendees will take the time to watch the create images on the sidewalks.
On both festival days from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the will host its annual Pancake Breakfast. Also, the dining terrace will be open throughout the festival, featuring "A Taste of Malibu," which will include a number of local restaurant items.

Musical entertainment will be provided on two stages. Some of the locals expected to perform are Kai Brown, Fans of Flannel and Alex Aleco.
The "Kid's Village" will include a children's workshop, where young people will work with artists to create their own art. A storytimes session will also take place on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. near the .
New to this year's festival is the Malibu Wine Trail Garden, which will take place Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. across the street at . It will include a variety of local wines.
The Chamber Village will include booths for local Malibu businesses.
Admission to the event is free, but parking will cost $7. The Pancake Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
