Young Malibu Musicians Perform for Japan

A Saturday concert at the Malibu Lumber Yard includes music of a variety of genres to raise money for earthquake/tsunami relief.

In the spirit of hands across the sea and to support the thousands of victims of last month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan, a group of Malibu's finest young musicians came together Saturday at the Malibu Lumber Yard for a fundraiser concert called "From Our Ocean to Theirs."

Malibu Lumber Yard shops , , Intermix, , and Maxfield donated a portion of the day's sales to the Japan earthquake and tsunami relief effort by Real Medicine Foundation. This is a humanitarian group that provides support to people living in disaster and poverty-stricken areas.

The youngest performer was 10-year-old Benjamin Krasner, a kid in a nice suit who has obviously been kissed on the forehead by the piano Gods. He melted the crowd with his performances of Bach and Beethoven. That got the crowd rocking in a classical way, and then Benjamin went a little more modern when he accompanied young Maggie Valdman in a rendition of "Summertime" as Malibu saxophonist Kenny G flipped the music pages.

Benjamin was followed by fellow keyboardist and alumnus Forrest Leichtberg. The remainder of the day included a variety of bands such as First Impressions, Bromley, Static Euphony, Aestus, the Malibu High teacher/student band, Max G, Jordan Seah, the James Burnett Band Ren Martinez and Sophie Galate.

Kenny G was there the whole time, lending support to the musicians by flipping music pages and setting up their gear.
