Update: Brush Fires Break Out in Malibu

Firefighters battle two fires, one in heavy brush on Point Dume, and another in Encinal Canyon.

Two fires broke out in the Malibu area Saturday afternoon, but they did not appear to be related.

The blaze behind the Point Dume Mobile Home Park in Malibu was reported at 1:55 p.m. Saturday at 29500 Heathercliff Road in Malibu, according to the Los Angeles County Fire. The mobile home community is famous for million-dollar, ocean-view coaches.

The fire was at about an acre and was burning in heavy brush at a slow rate. Malibu residents joined in the firefighting, uses hoses to battle the flames.

By 3 p.m., L.A. County firefighters were mopping up the blackened gully on Point Dume.

Five acres of brush at the top of Encinal Canyon burned in a blaze first reported at 1:11 p.m. near Encinal Canyon Road and Lechusa Road, said Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Sims said no injuries were immediately reported, and no structures were threatened.

Encinal Canyon Road was closed to traffic just north of Pacific Coast Highway and up to Lechusa Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fire was put out just before 4 p.m.
