Update: Firefighters Douse Brush Fire Above Malibu

Helicopters worked to battle the blaze, which was between one to two acres. The fire was knocked down at 9:45 a.m.

UPDATE: The brush fire was knocked down at 9:45 a.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. Personnel included 185 firefighters contained the two-alarm fire that reached approximately an acre and a half. The fire was started by construction work.

Original: A brush fire broke out in the area of Castro Peak in the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu Monday.

The fire, which had spread to between one to two acres, was reported at 8:25 a.m. Monday near Corral Canyon Road at Castro Peak Mountainway, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

Helicopters and ground crews were attacking the flames, a L.A. County Fire dispatcher said.

No structures were immediately threatened.

Malibu officials were monitoring the blaze, according to the city’s office of Emergency Services.

Castro Peak is among the highest peaks in the Santa Monica Mountains. Malibu is located to the southeast of the peak.
