House Takes Malibu's Helm as Mayor, Peak Steps Up as Mayor Pro Tem

The appointments are confirmed without discussion, a 180-degree change from the last mayoral rotation months ago.

Joan House was confirmed as Malibu’s new mayor, while Skylar Peak was sworn in as mayor pro tem at Wednesday’s council meeting.

Both appointments were confirmed without discussion by the city council, a 180-degree change from the last mayoral rotation nine months ago, when Lou La Monte became mayor and House was chosen as mayor pro tem over top vote getter Skylar Peak.

As mayor, House, who was sworn in by her grandson, said she hopes to continue to push for ball fields and a skate park, crack down on substance abuse treatment centers and conduct a study of every single parking spot on Pacific Coast Highway in the city’s limits.

Peak was sworn in by Councilman John Sibert.

“I really look forward to continue to serve our city and the residents of Malibu,” Peak said.
