Remaining Elephant Seal Pups Released To Freedom Near Malibu

Two northern elephant seal pups were released Friday at Leo Carrillo State Beach near Malibu.

The seals have been in rehabilitation for months at the California Wildlife Center (CWC). They are the remaining two of six that were taken in by the CWC.

"We're excited to be able to let them go back out again because it has been such a long process of them being out of the water," said Jeff Hall, the CWC's marine mammal response coordinator.

The other four were released at Paradise Cove in Malibu in June.

The pups were treated for infections, taught to feed themselves and reached a goal weight of 150 pounds before being released.
