Cure Spa Opens New Location in Malibu [Video]

Husband and wife Lisa Benya and Michael McCauley are expanding Cure Spa in Malibu, which they started nearly five years ago as a wellness center.

Lisa Benya and Michael McCauley celebrated on Thursday the culmination of months of work in moving their wellness center, Cure Spa, from Malibu Road to a new location on Pacific Coast Highway.

The Malibu Chamber of Commerce put on a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday at the new location at 22741 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

"It is such a great celebration for us," said Benya, who is a general family practitioner.

Having outgrown their former location on Malibu Road, the duo decided to undertake the move to PCH.

"We're both risk takers so we knew we just had to go for it," Benya said.

The PCH location will be home base for Cure Spa, which also provides services at the Malibu Beach Inn at Carbon Beach and at Le Cure at the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel.

McCauley said the idea for the business originally came during his treatment for Lyme disease.

"We wanted to do something more than just the typical spa," he said. "... We want to provide some relief and some kind of a cure."

McCauley said he was undiagnosed for a few years.

"I was doing a lot of unorthodox treatments to relieve myself of these symptoms. I was doing acupuncture. I was doing massage. I would get a facial. If I looked better, I was feeling better and that was the premise behind Cure," he said. "We wanted to help people with ailments."

Benya said research is showing that spa treatments can be medicinal.

"We are pushing the envelope for a spa ... We are developing things that you can do at a spa that will actually treat your medical conditions or keep you healthy so you don't get sick," she said.

Mostly they are targeting migraines, back pain, menopause and other ailments, Benya said.
