HOWS Rooftop Sign Taken Down at Trancas Market

And then it was gone. Neighbors of the Trancas Country Market had an improved view of the ocean Monday in Malibu.

A rooftop sign advertising the now closed HOWS Trancas Market at the renovated Trancas Country Market was removed under the city of Malibu's new enforcement of its sign program.

The Malibu Planning Commission voted in June against the shopping center's sign program, calling for its owners to go back to the drawing board.

Attorney Clare Bronowski, representing the owner, Zuma Beach Properties, LLC, argued in a June hearing before the Malibu Planning Commission that the signs were within the city's guidelines and that the roof top sign should be grandfathered in.

Erewhon Natural Foods is scheduled to open at Trancas Country Market in the space formerly occupied by Howe's Market, which closed in 2011.

What do you think of the rooftop sign's removal? Is your view better? Was the sign part of Malibu history? Tell us in the comments.
