Former Malibu Surfside News Editor Blesses Newspaper's Sale to Illinois-Based Company

The Malibu Surfside News first began publishing in 1976.

In her first public statement since her June hospitalization, former Malibu Surfside Editor Anne Soble praised the 37-year-old newspaper's sale to Illinois-based 22nd Century Media.

"I am very pleased to pass on my 37-year commitment to the Malibu community and its residents to a company equally dedicated to local news,” said Soble, 73. “22nd Century Media has established a track record of caring deeply about the residents of the towns that they serve."

Heather Warthen, 22nd Century Media's managing editor, said the purchase of the Surfside News fits in with the company's mission to providing quality local news. This is 22nd Century Media's first newspaper in California.

Amanda Ryan, co-owner of 22nd Century Media with former U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan, said she is grateful to Soble for her devotion to the city.
