Los Angeles County Unemployment Inching Down
Total non-farm employment increased by 27,700 jobs in Los Angeles County between January and February to reach nearly 4.2 million.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County decreased to 8.7 percent in February, down from a revised 8.9 percent in January, the state Employment Development Department announced today.
The 8.7 percent unemployment rate was below the 10.2 percent rate in February 2013, according to the EDD.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 5.9 percent.

California's jobless rate was 8 percent in February, down from 8.1 percent in January and below the 9.4 percent rate in February 2013, according to the EDD.
The comparable estimates for the nation were 6.7 percent in February, 6.6 percent in January and 7.7 percent a year ago.

A total of 432,000 people were unemployed in February in Los Angeles County, which has a labor force of nearly 5 million. Statewide, 1.5 million people were unemployed, down slightly from January.
