Special Olympics to Honor Malibu-Based JAKKS Pacific's CEO Stephen Berman

Berman co-founded the Malibu-based toy company in 1995.

Stephen Berman, co-founder of Malibu-based JAKKS Pacific, will be honored in October by the Special Olympics for his work to help children and families in need.

Berman, who co-founded the toy company in 1995, has collaborated with Disney, Nickelodeon, Nintendo, LucasArts, Cabbage Patch Kids, Black & Decker and Marvel. He started JAKKS Cares, the philanthropic division of JAKKS Pacific which aims to help children all over the world to smile, play and succeed. 

Berman will be honored at the upcoming Pier del Sol fundraiser on Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. on the Santa Monica Pier at Pacific Park.

“Stephen has contributed to our movement personally and professionally through his work at JAKKS Pacific,” said Bill Shumard, President and CEO of Special Olympics Southern California. “We couldn’t be prouder to honor him at this high-level event.”

This year’s event includes a VIP brunch with spectacular cuisine from nearly 35 of LA’s top restaurants, including Chef Josiah Citrin of Melisse, Chef Michael Cimarusti of Providence, Chef Gino Angelini of Angelini  Osteria and Chef Alain Giraud of Maison Giraud.

General Admission tickets are $45 and include unlimited rides, eight game tickets, and a meal coupon for Pacific Park’s food plaza. VIP Tickets are $150 each or $500 for five, to include an amazing VIP Brunch prepared by LA’s top restaurants, unlimited rides, and 10 game tickets. Child VIP tickets are $50 (ages 5-12). 

Since 1997, Pier del Sol has raised nearly $8 million, benefiting and changing the lives of more than 14,000 Special Olympic Southern California athletes.
