Urban Outfitters is scheduled to open a new store on Cross Creek Road in Malibu on Aug. 15.

The fashion retailer will occupy the former Charter Communications building on the corner of Cross Creek Road and Civic Center Way.

Brandon Meade, District Manager of Urban Outfitters in the Greater Los Angeles area, said he hopes Malibu will welcome the store as “an addition to the localized feel of the city.”

There are plans to work with the Surfrider Foundation’s Malibu chapter for the opening, Meade said.

The 10,075 square-foot warehouse will be transformed by using distinctive architectural structures such as wood rafter ceilings, heavy timber fitting rooms, a God’s eye multicolored floor and glass garage doors that link to a courtyard.

The courtyard space is expected to house a small garden area, a fire pit and outdoor seating for various events.

“For the opening weekend, we are working on doing a special movie screening, which we are really excited about,” Meade said.

The Malibu store will carry clothing and accessories for men and women, as well as home, music and lifestyle products. The store will also feature one of a kind pieces not available in other stores.

The store is expecting a large number of college-aged shoppers, but does not plan to offer any student discounts. However, students from nearby Pepperdine can keep an eye out for exclusive college nights in the future.

“We hope to partner with Pepperdine and grow a strong relationship,” Meade said.

The retail store’s opening will also generate 50 to 60 new jobs. To apply online, visit www.urbanoutfitters.com.
