Why do some stylist prefer just long hair, or just fine hair, etc.? This preference is due to ease and knowledge of certain techiniques but not all or one is easier than the other which should not be the determination for what hair style you get! Whether it be short, medium and long haircuts on fine, straight or wavy hair, the choice should be because it is the most complementary for you and your feeling about what you look best in in my humble opinion! Some hair styles, often the shorter, chin length or so can be more challenging to some because it is easier for the eye (your eye) to see the flaws in the shorter cut itself but this is not the case if it is executed well! Often, people are terrified of cutting it shorter because of a past experience, because it wasn't done well and looked, well..not good! For longer hair, it is simply easier to hide flaws, although you would likely be able to 'feel' it if you were sensitive about that sort of thing. Those same flaws in the shorter cuts are in your longer cuts too, except they are as visible! When claims are made "specializing only in long hair or fine hair speciality"-think twice. All haircuts need to be systematically approached, although it may look like it is done without much thought. I suppose it can be comparable to driving after a while, one could do it well and listen to a conversation as well but my suggestion is to avoid dramatic conversation, because multiple decisions are made in order for the hair to feel and look right which requires some focus, very much like driving a car. If the stylist wants to give you the same cut or color although you requested a change, inquire about the reason and see if the answer resonates true for you. An effective stylist should be able to cut short, medium or long, straight and wavy if the entire plethora of techniques were known. At that junction, it's a matter of selecting which techinque is best for what result on you. If there is a 'hole' in that kind of technical knowledge, it will show up elsewhere in all hair types and styles, it just whether you notice it or not-this is true for men or women hair styles. My personal motivation has and always been what looks the best on you and how you feel about it, that day; whether the haircut takes me 30 minutes or two hours, the satisfaction for me is the result. You will walk away from the salon and wear that hair for 24/7 until you cut it again, I take that very seriously. Plus, it is so much more personally rewarding for me. How boring would it be if I did the same few things on everybody all the time!
