Hikers Who Forgot Where They Parked Call 911

Two out-of-town hikers who ventured into Topanga State Park and later forgot where they parked their car, called 911 seeking help Saturday evening.

"They didn't know where they had parked their vehicle and where they had started their hike," said David Katz, a spokesman for Malibu Search and Rescue.

The hikers, a man and a woman who were not from Los Angeles, called the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department about 5:30 p.m. and reported exiting the 101 freeway on a street starting with a "R" and parking near a country club, Katz said.

Officials deduced they might had taken Reseda Boulevard. When Katz responded, he spotted the car, and, 10 minutes later, the two hikers working towards it.

"Fortunately I was able to get there, because two minutes later, if we hadn't seen [the hikers], we would have been out there for hours searching," he said.
