Wind Advisory Issued for Malibu

Santa Anas will produce winds from 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph on Wednesday night, and have the potential to knock down power lines and damage property.

A wind advisory was issued Wednesday for the Malibu and Topanga areas, with gusts up to 50 mph expected from a Santa Ana wind event.

The advisory will go into effect at 8 p.m. Wednesday through noon Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. A high wind watch will remain in effect from Thursday evening through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds between 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected in the canyons on Thursday, forecasters warned. That will increase to sustained winds between 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph on Friday evening.

The gusty conditions could make driving difficult for high profile vehicles passing through Topanga and Malibu and Decker Canyon through Kanan Dume Road, the NWS reported.

The winds have the potential to knock down power lines and damage property.
