Winter Storm Prompts High Surf, Wind Advisories in Malibu

Forecasters warn that Malibu could be slammed with high surf, gusty winds and rain starting Tuesday.

A cold winter storm will bring gusty winds, a strong chance of rain and the possibility of thunderstorms to Malibu Tuesday.

A wind advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday in Malibu, according to the National Weather Service.

Western winds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will develop Tuesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday morning.

A high surf advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 10 p.m. Wednesday on west facing beaches in Malibu and other coastal cities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Swell between six to eight feet with some sets up to 10 feet are expected, forecasters warned.

I see these high surf advisories posted all the time, and it is a really stupid way to get everybody all freaked out, and get all of LA driving around Malibu for surf that will never come. anything coming from a direction of 300° will not hit these beaches. since this is a wind swell, its possible some big junky surf will get here, but the odds of good conditions are not in our favor.
