Winter Storm Prompts High Surf, Wind Advisories in Malibu

Forecasters warn that Malibu could be slammed with high surf, gusty winds and rain starting Tuesday.

A cold winter storm will bring gusty winds, a strong chance of rain and the possibility of thunderstorms to Malibu Tuesday.

A wind advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday in Malibu, according to the National Weather Service.

Western winds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will develop Tuesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday morning.

A high surf advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 10 p.m. Wednesday on west facing beaches in Malibu and other coastal cities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Swell between six to eight feet with some sets up to 10 feet are expected, forecasters warned.

Rain showers are expected to arrive in Malibu after 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS.
