Meet Ken McAlpine, author of Islands Apart: A Year on the Edge of Civilization, at Bank of Books Malibu

When Ken McAlpine decided to get away from the clamor of everyday
life to do some soul-searching, the place he chose to visit was
paradoxically both remote and near-by: the Channel Islands. His
week-long solo trips to each of these remote, windswept islands -
interspersed with visits to a 98-year-old monk in the desert, a homeless
man in Beverly Hills, and a celebrity impersonator in Hollywood - are
the subject of his book Islands Apart: A Year on the Edge of Civilization. What Ken discovered
about himself and the world we live in will inspire anyone who wishes
they had the time to slow down and notice the wonders of nature and
humanity.

Ken McAlpine is an award-winning travel writer and novelist. His magazine articles have earned three Lowell Thomas awards, travel writing's highest honor. His books include Fog; Off-Season: Discovering America on Winter's Shore (a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection); and Together We Jump: A Journey of Love, Hope, and Second Chances. He lives in Ventura with his wife and two sons.
