Fireball Reviews the 2012 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon

A hot wagon for the young at heart.

In a word ... wow. This crystal red wagon belongs in the hands of those who love to drive. Thoughts of wolves in sheep's clothing come to mind, but it's really a Corvette Station Wagon. Only... faster than the Z06 Vette. But it's more ...

Cadillac has come back with a vengeance and a mission. And they chose to accept it. The Mission: Attract young consumers eager for unique design, flavor and experience. And that's exactly what they've done with this car. Only... they didn't attract just young people, but the young side of all of us.

Some numbers ... 6.2L supercharged 556hp V8 with 551 foot pounds of Torque, 19-inch wheels, high-end interior, Bose System and heated seats. Now, I could get into all the other cool stuff, but this is a blog post and not a book. And I could write a book on this beast.

Bottom line ... Cadillac has reinvented itself as a new and innovative force in the automotive world. And although the car is near perfect in my opinion ... there are a few things that need to be addressed.

Yes, serious power comes with serious gas usage. And a 12/18 rating isn't all that good along with a $2,600 gas-guzzler tax. You could improve that by taking steps after you bought it ... but let's stick to stock. It's got a small tank and if you have to commute, you're gonna make friends with the boys of 76. Not a plus. And the seats take some getting used to, as they feel like race seats and not everyone likes that at first. But you can fine tune them to lock in what you like, and that's doable.

But, since you're smart and you know what you're buying, the driving experience is worth it. Put this launch pad up against just about any European model and it'll smoke pants. And that is what Cadillac does (with a price point of $62K-$73K, it better!).

Only one thing faster than the CTS-V Wagon ... the Coupe. Same HP, only lighter. Drive it. Track it. But know that Cadillac is here to stay and based on the concepts coming, will surely resolve their issues to perfection. I'm in.
