Charity Needs Help Providing Holiday Gifts to Needy Kids

For a seventh year, Safety Harbor Kids will provide gifts for orphans, foster and homeless children.

Members of a Malibu-based charity are concerned that this year, they may not raise all the money they need to in order to provide holiday gifts and stockings to as many children in need as they had hoped.

Now in its seventh year hosting a holiday event where they provide the gifts, Safety Harbor Kids is seeking donations from the public for 150 children. Donations help to pay for transportation to the holiday party, a holiday meal, at least two gifts, a new pair of shoes and a stocking full of goodies and school supplies, according to Safety Harbor Kids' web site. Donations also pay for toys that will be given to children at a local homeless shelter.

The organization asks for donations in the amount of $50, which can be donated on the web site.

In the six years Safety Harbor Kids has been hosting the event, it's provided 6,000 gifts and 1,500 holiday stockings to more than 1,500 children.

Each year, the organization has a founder's challenge, wherein the person making the largest donation is recognized. Last year, the challenge winner was a resident of Malibu. This year, so far, it's singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, but donations are still being accepted.
