Malibu Adoptions Can Save These Lives

By Andrea Braver & J. Flora Katz

Lil Mama and Tiny
How cute is this pair! Lil Mama, 4 years old, and Tiny, her 1-year old baby, were part of the foursome that were abandoned by their owners.

Hard to believe that anyone could leave these girls behind.  But, they did  --  along with Bakita, the terrier mix, and Butch, the super friendly, wiggly black-and-white pit mix who is adored by the volunteers who take him out in the play yard.  Lil Mama and Tiny were exceptionally shy when first impounded and, while Lil Mama has grown accustomed to shelter life, the barking all around her, the clanging of metal gate and food bowls, Tiny was a bit less willing to venture out of her cubby. But, she did at last. That is, once Lil Mama showed her the way, showed her that wagging her tail might get her some petting and some treats too.

These two ladies are terrier - wire-hired doxie mixes. So adorable and unique in appearance.  While Lil Mama is rounder, Tiny is very, very long. Last weekend we decided to split up the pair and see how Tiny might fare on her own. She came with us to a mobile pet adoption event in Studio City and, with some coaxing, found herself getting up on those short stubby legs, primarily to seek the companionship of other dogs.

Tiny just loves other canines and would do best in a home with a furry pal. Tiny did not find her home that day and wound up being transferred to the Best Friends facility in Mission Hills where she is available for adoption. Lil Mama is still waiting for you at the South L.A. shelter.

The girls Adoption ID numbers are: Lil Mama at A1410299 and Tiny at A1410300  --  although hers would be changed now that she is at Best Friends.  You could still call or visit them and give them her information.  The phone number at Best Friends is (818)  643-3989.

Bakita
Take a good look at Bakita and give a guess as to her breed.  She's definitely not an Akita -- way too small. Nor a cheetah -- doesn't move that quickly. Her temperament is not that of a Lolita -- far more subdued. But, she's definitely a sweet-a.

Bakita is so adorable with the dotted black-and-white pattern covering her soft coat. She's slightly shy at first but loves attention and warms up quickly. Sadly, Bakita is one of a group of four dogs that were abandoned at their owner's home when they moved away.

Our other entries for this week were also part of that doggy family which included two terriers, Lil Mama and Tiny, and a super sweet pit mix named Butch. Though adopted from the shelter initially, Bakita's people didn't care for her the way we might have hoped. She's now being treated for an easily curable skin condition that should disappear quickly once out of the shelter.

Bakita is just 2 1/2 years old and weighs 16 pounds. She's got such a bright future ahead of her. That's if she can find a shining star to save her life. Bakita's Adoption ID number is A1221655.
