Blog: Catching up With Cisco Adler

Sam from Hildee-Brand interviews Cisco Adler RE: showcase at The Roxy on Jan 15, new music, and prepping for a national tour with MOD SUN and Tayyib Ali.

Malibu, CA  -  Jan. 3, 2012:    Malibu-local, artist-producer-musician, Cisco Adler, and Philly-based breakthrough rapper Tayyib Ali -- will be celebrating and showcasing songs off of their new collab. EP “One Way,” at The Roxy on Jan 15th! Hildee-Brand is partnering with the BananaBeat camp to spread the word about the show! Sam from Hildee_Brand caught up with Adler over the Holiday's and got the 4-1-1 on Adler's new music, upcoming tour, and the new EP drop this month with Tayyib.  For more info on the showcase, tickets, and artists click here!

We were stoked when Adler took a quick break from shredding the slopes and Winter-Wonderland-ing in Aspen, and hopped on the phone with us!  From wrapping a fall tour with Iration and The Expendables, to writing and producing with some amazing, new up-and-comers, to dropping a new LP in October, to prepping for a Spring Tour with MOD SUN and Tayyib Ali in Feb, to running game on the music scene with BananaBeat - this man lives and breathes music, art, and creation.

Being born-and-raised between Malibu and Maui exposed Adler to music, art, and culture ranging from hip-hop to reggae to punk-rock.  Adler tells us that musical influences (Tribe Called Quest, Bob Dylan, and Steve Miller Band, to name a few), and non-musical influences alike, shaped his music, art, and outlook on life.  That’s why his new LP ALOHA, “sounds like a beach” he says.  After the musical expedition that he’s been on - collaborating, producing, and writing with everyone from Mike Posner to Mickey Avalon, kicking-ass-and-taking-names as the frontman for Whitestarr, and focusing on new artist search and development with BananaBeat, Adler’s lifestyle collective/ record label -- Adler explains, “It was time to get back to my roots.”  Dropped in October ’12, ALOHA, features collabs with G.Love, Pat Brown, and MOD SUN.  Adler will be performing “a set of his own” that is sure to include a handful of songs off ALOHA before showcasing “One Way” with Tayyib on the 15th at The Roxy.

After wrapping a national Fall ’12 tour just a few weeks ago, Adler and the boys are already prepping to kick off another national tour in Feb. with Tayyib and MOD SUN.    We asked - “Production vs. Performing?”:  “I like the fact that I get to do both and exercise different sides of my brain.  As an artist to play new music, and play my music for people is eternally fun and rewarding.  But then I like to get back and create.“

And it always comes full circle, doesn’t it?  BananaBeat focuses on one-off collaborations with talented artists on the rise.  Adler says, “Our goal is to find new ways to connect the dots between band and fan and brand.”  In that same vein, Adler gave us the skinny on MOD SUN and Tayyib - both cutting-edge artists that connected with the BananaBeat camp through social media and coming out to shows. Adler says, “MOD SUN was a fan since Whitestarr and tweeted me for years, and then one time I responded and started checking out his stuff... And it was incredible - it was a natural fit.  Same with Tayyib.  He’s been showing up at my shows since he was 14 years old, and then he just grew into an artist.  I like to let artists bake until they’re perfectly baked.”

Adler and the BananaBeat community are tight-knit and each artist is unique and relevant in their own way.  Tayyib is no exception.  Tayyib released his first EP “Keystone State of Mind” in 2011  --  which, we might add, Tayyib released on his own.  As Adler puts it, the EP  “tore up the blogs.”  Adler says that teaming with with Tayyib seemed like a “natural fit.”  The two released one song together, “Ride With Us,” that killed it, so they decided to write and record a collection of songs.  Adler explains, “Tayyib is east coast born-and-bred.  If you’re a fan of anything I’ve done, this is a new step in another new direction.  It’s a melding of east and west.”

ALOHA is available on iTunes, and the boys kick off their spring tour in Philly at The Hard Rock on Feb 1.  “Keystone State of Mind” is available for free at tayyibali.com.  “One Way” EP drops this month, and will be available on iTunes.  Check out “Ride With Us” here!  See you on the 15th at The Roxy!
