See image by Karrie Ross with Haiku?... A chorus of voices -- sing a song singing it loud -- together unite

Artist Karrie Ross will be featured this Saturday at Topanga Canyon Gallery’s newest group exhibition. Karrie has been a member for the past four years and is proud to have “My Trees Talking” featured at Topanga Canyon Gallery.

The Million Trees LA initiative originally inspired Karrie’s upcoming exhibit. She explains, “The research for my October show led me to the Million Trees LA project and I learned they have helped distribute and plant around 350,000 trees to date.

So, I decided to make, “TREES” the focus and imagery for my show, I then pushed the process to form a question which became artwork and a book.

Ross continues, “My thoughts went to the “My ____ Talking” series of books I’m writing, then I asked, “How can I work another book in with this show?” with thoughts stirring, the concept finally came to me… “I’ll draw 1-100 trees and have them share a personalized haiku in the book and title it ‘My Trees Talking.’”

“My Trees Talking,” And they are Speaking Haiku!” is a book that partners 80 (of the 100) whimsical pen & ink tree drawings with a haiku.

The book along with the original drawings matted with a select few framed; a 60x48 painting, two table-top assemblage “tree” sculptures and a variety of smaller paintings will be in the exhibition.

These 100 pen & ink drawings will be available and a select few will be displayed as framed originals, giclee reproductions and as greeting cards. Also on display you’ll see the series bustier, two table-top size tree sculptures, a 60 x 48 Tree painting and a few smaller art pieces to balance it all out.

Come join the fun and experience “My Trees Talking” with artist Karrie Ross at Topanga Canyon Gallery this Saturday October 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will also be an artist talk on Saturday, October 28th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. To view more images, go to  http://www.karrierossfineart.com/portfolio/my-trees-talking/

Dear Phil (re: Burt's column), I can’t quite put my finger on it, but, I sense anRead More Eggs-itential undertone to all this. Does the chicken Egg-ist on behalf of the egg or vice versa? Eggs-perience will reveal the truth. To be complete, I must rehash Camus’ “The Play-egg.” Yet, as I recall, in the Book of Eggs-odous, there wasn’t a single Play-egg, but ten of them… so many, in fact, that it seems to many readers to be literally a Dozen Play-eggs. But, then again, I’m not very religious. In fact, many of my colleagues take me for an Egg-nostic. But, they are such Hard-boiled fanatics, that, in fact, their peers surmise they boarder on Egg-lectic. But, as Burt always says in da ‘hood, “Om-letting them be what they want to be.” We, however, have one on Burt: Rumor has it that he fell of the Vegan and had an egg salad… to which he Eggs-claims, “It was a serving of ‘Egg Beaters,’ you Egg-Heads!!”

May Malibu residents, businesses and our City ALWAYS have the foresight and passion to remember andRead More protect > "Malibu was a place I went to with friends to hang out at the beach. But the last few years, its become a place I often go to by myself as a little escape zone.
