Once again American Tortoise Rescue – Malibu’s unique 22 year-old nonprofit animal rescue – is indebted to Michael Koss and his Malibu Country Mart for donating leftover Thanksgiving pumpkins to feed hungry Sulcata, Redfoot and Leopard tortoises in our care.
Susan Tellem, RN, APR and co-founder said, “Since medical care and food are the two largest expenses for the more than 100 turtles and tortoises in our care, we are grateful for the continued generosity of the Malibu Country Mart. This is truly an expression of Malibu’s aloha spirit.”
Julie Labin, Malibu Country Mart’s Director of Sustainability was instrumental in helping ATR receive this bounty.
“The pumpkins are a colorful part of our outdoor decorations from Halloween through Thanksgiving,” Labin said. “We are glad that they are going to a great local organization to help meet their needs and not simply being discarded or composted. This is what our mission in sustainability is all about.”
If you protect them from rain and direct sunlight the pumpkins should last through early March.
'Tis the season. Thanks Michael and Julie.
