Son of Former Malibu Boys and Girls Club Director Dies

Tyler Robinson, 24, attended Malibu High School and was living in the Palm Springs area.

Tyler Robinson, a former Malibu High School student whose father helped open the Malibu Boys and Girls Club, died Monday.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Forest Lawn Mortuary at 69885 Ramon Road in Cathedral City, which is near Palm Springs, according to the Robinson family.

Tyler's father, Scott Robinson, helped open the Boys and Girls Club in Malibu in 2000 and left to run the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City in 2005.

"The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City was dear to Tyler's heart," according to a statement released by the Robinson family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City.

This is the second death in the past week among Tyler's group of friends. Jay Ogawa, 25, of Malibu was killed in a crash near Bakersfield.

On a Facebook page memorializing Tyler, several friends left memories and posted photos.

Tyler Abbott of Malibu wrote that he met Tyler Robinson at the Boys and Girls Club.

"I have lost my oldest best friend, a brother, a teacher, a mentor, and a guardian angel. Ty taught me how to play and so much more," Abbott wrote.
