Acupuncture Offers Healthy Alternative For Weight Loss

Lisa's approach to health is holistic and integrative, meaning that her treatments take into account many factors.

Licensed Acupuncturist and Medical Herbalist Lisa Knickmeyer's approach to health is holistic and integrative.

Obesity, which is one of the health crises facing Western society, is notoriously difficult to manage. While medications may be effective, safe treatments for obesity have been difficult to find. In fact, several Western drug therapies have been pulled from the market by the FDA due to serious adverse reactions, including fatal events and the development of medically serious conditions. While surgical treatments are growing in popularity, they also carry substantial risks.

The data analyzed in Obesity Reviews this month indicates that non-traditional treatments may be both safer and more effective than traditional medical therapies. When compiled, data from 49 studies on Chinese Herbal Medicine, 44 on acupuncture and 3 which used both techniques yielded results demonstrating that these treatments are as effective or more effective than either control or traditional Western drugs such as sibutramine, fenfluramine, and orlistat. In addition, the study showed that those who underwent non-traditional treatment for obesity were less likely to regain the weight.

Lisa's treatments take into account the presenting symptoms along with the patient's basic constitution, Wester medical findings, lifestyle and diet, as well as emotional and environmental factors.

Chinese acupuncture is finally getting underneath the skin of dieters by making use of the body’s many hidden energy meridians. The traditional practice of acupuncture helps you to heal a host of ailments, and practitioners of Western medicine now embrace it to quell chronic pain, postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting, high blood pressure, addictions and weight loss. When tiny needles are barely inserted in to the skin along strategic points around the body it can restore good balance to the flow of one’s along rivers of Qi (pronounced chee), or life force.
