The DeVito Saga #9

I immediately go into "rescue mode" grabbing up my steel-toed boots, hard-hat, and safety-goggles as I race out of the house, jump in my truck, and head for the scene of the disaster.

I skid to a stop at the edge of the cliff and see Danny hanging by his fingertips to an old  weathered branch protruding from a small tree growing out of a crevice in the side of the cliff.  His parachute is torn to shreds and he looks dazed.

I lower myself carefully down onto the branch and inch my way towards him.  "Don't make any sudden moves or this branch will break and you will fall to your death!!!"

Danny has apparently suffered a very traumatic injury to his head because he is making crazy groaning noises that are totally incoherent, "Giddof thubb wrench yuyidyet."

He's in bad shape and I need to ascertain the exact nature of his injury.  "Danny!  I need to know the extent of your injury so that I can figure out how to help you!  Can you repeat that a . . . little . . . more . . . clearly?"

"Get off the branch you idiot!!!"

And so it was, just moments before the branch snapped off sending us both hurtling into the abyss, that I remember thinking to myself, "How nice it would be if we could just let by-gones be by-gones."
