2,245 Lose Power in Western Malibu

Bank of Books in Malibu is among the business impacted by the outage, which is under investigation.

Some 2,245 Southern California Edison customers were left without power Monday in the Point Dume area of Malibu.

The outage began about 3:15 p.m. Monday in an area starting with Latigo Canyon Road to the east, Birdview Avenue to the west, Cliffside Drive to the south and Via Acero to the north, according to Lauren Bartlett, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison.

Power was restored to all but 179 customers by 7 p.m. along Cavalleri Road, according to Edison. Power was expected to be restored by 11 p.m.

Erik Chapman, an employee at Bank of Books, said the power was out at the Malibu store, but that it remained open.

"It's a bit spooky towards the back of the store," Chapman said. "It looks like a cavern right now."

The cause of the outage was under investigation.
